The Astro Mapping the Massacre of Black Wall Street (Tulsa Race Massacre)

In honor of Black History Month, I’d like to explore the locational astrology behind Black History events or the astrocartography of Black History leaders.

For this post, I’ll be exploring the locational astrology of the Black Wall Street. This was a street (in Tulsa, Oklahoma) full of black businesses, and a great display of wealth within the black community within the early 1900s. This street was created out of necessity due to segregation, but quickly became a booming community!

History of Black Wall Street

The area known as Black Wall Street began when black landowners such as O.W. Gurley purchased about 40 acres of land between 1905-1906. He declared that he would only sell the land to other black people, creating one of the most prosperous African American communities in the United States. self-sustaining economy with banks, hotels, theaters, restaurants, and professional offices that circulated wealth within the community and drew national admiration, earning the area its nickname. The nickname was started by Booker T. Washington, a leader who promoted black industrialism. By 1921, Greenwood was home to about 10,000 residents and was widely regarded as a model of Black enterprise and success in an era of intense racial segregation and oppression.

Tulsa Race Massacre

Between May 31st-June 1st in 1921, the newspaper printed an article stating that a black man had raped a white woman in a hotel elevator. Despite the fact that there wasn’t a trial or any evidence, racial tensions erupted. A white mob attacked Greenwood, looting and burning more than 35 blocks of homes and businesses and killing hundreds of residents. This event devastated the community and destroyed much of its economic foundation. Decades later, despite efforts to rebuild and preserve its legacy, the event remains a powerful testament to both African American resilience and the destructive impacts of racial violence in U.S. history.

Geodetic Map vs. Astrocartography

I’ll actually be using the Geodetic map for this event. Geodetic astrology is a branch of mundane and locational astrology that maps the zodiac directly onto the Earth's surface (map), usually starting with 0° Aries at the Greenwich Prime Meridian. It creates a fixed house cusp structure for any location to analyze global events, predict geopolitical shifts, and identify personal,, power-spot locations for relocation.

This differs from an astrocartography as we use astrocartography maps by generating a birth chart and then creating a map overlay of that chart based on angularity. In astrocartpgraphy, the time and place of the chart really really matters. For Geodetic astrology/mapping timing isn’t as important as location. Thus, I’ll be using this to see what planetary lines were moving across the Tulsa, Oklahoma area during this event.

Please note: Unlike planetary lines portrayed in Cyclocartography (a timing technique for Astrocartography), planetary lines (especially the larger planets) move much slower on a geodetic map.

As we take a look at the map, I’d like to highlight both days: May 31st and June 1st of 1921.

Geodetic Map of Tulsa, OK on May 31, 1921

During this time, the moon ASC line was crossing over Tulsa, OK. The moon governs our emotions and emotional body, but in mundane astrology it also represents the people. So, in general, around this time emotions were already high. Adding this to the planetary lines mentioned below, and it’s clear how chaos erupted and how the misaligned beliefs and mistreatment of the black community was enhanced.

The morning of June 1, 1921 is when the mob attacked the Greenwood Community (Black Wall Street area). During this time, the following planetary lines were present:

Saturn Descendent Line:

This line was closest to the city of Tulsa. This line has an emphasis on relationships and how you view the other person. Saturn rules karma, discipline, time, restrictions, structure, etc. This energy plays out as segregation itself was still around during this time (hence why this community was even created in the first place). Also, it is easy for others (especially those with opposing view points) to paint you as the villain under this energy. The last thing is the lack of patience for the mob who attacked this community. Instead of taking matters into their own hands, they should’ve advocated for a fair trial (more on this with the Mars line). Sadly, this was unheard of for African Americans who were accused of a crime against a white person in the south/midwest during this time.

Jupiter Descendent Line:

Speaking of the law! The African Americans who were part of this community did not have the protection of the law despite their financial status or economic developments. You would think that since the black community was embracing segregation by creating their own community that there would be a new found sense of mutual respect, but instead racism (the diluted belief that one race is superior to another) prevailed. Jupiter rules beliefs, the law, philosophy, expansion, growth, etc. This energy played out as an expansion of the tension, restrictions, chaotic, and aggressive energy that it was surrounded by (Saturn, Uranus, and Mars).

Uranus Ascendent Line:

For this event, Uranus plays a role with the fire itself. Uranus rules electricity, sudden explosions, sudden chaos, etc. Several people were injured and many killed due to the sudden destruction of these buildings and homes. There were even rumors that the mob was adding in kerosene and gas to the fires to enhance the flames. This energy played out as the disruption of this community itself. Furthermore, Uranus is often seen in the astrology associated with wars or civil unrest.

Mars IC Line:

This line shows that Mars Is near the 4th or 3rd house. The house of home/family (4th house) or your local community (3rd house). We can see this energy play out as the white mob uses the white woman’s virtue as a scapegoat for mass violence (a false sense of fighting to protect your community). Later, it was reported that the rape did not actually happen. This energy also manifested as the violent act itself within the black community and the destruction of many homes and families. Remember, Mars is the planet of war.
